Seeing a psychiatrist is an important step toward improving your mental health. The most important thing to do before your first visit is to acknowledge that you deserve help—this is the beginning of healing.

Your first psychiatry appointment with Dr. Norma White, DNP, PMHNP-BC, ACNP-BC will last about one hour. This session is designed to help Dr. White understand your unique needs, symptoms, and goals. You’ll discuss your medical and mental health history, any past treatments, and how your current challenges affect your daily life. Everything shared is completely confidential, and you’ll be met with compassion, respect, and understanding in a safe, nonjudgmental environment.

Here’s how you can prepare:

Complete any required forms and confirm your payment or insurance coverage.

Find a quiet, private space for your telehealth session.

Have your photo ID, a list of current medications or supplements, and any recent medical records ready.

Prepare a short list of symptoms, triggers, or questions you’d like to discuss.

Consider inviting a trusted family member or friend to help you feel comfortable and take notes, if you wish.

Before your appointment, take time to prepare by finding a quiet, private space for your telehealth visit, having your photo ID and medication list ready, and noting any symptoms or concerns you want to discuss. Try to relax—it’s natural to feel emotional or nervous, but you are in safe hands.

Dr. White will complete a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and may use short screening tools or questionnaires to gather more insight. It’s common to feel emotional during this process.
